About Us
Now in its forty fifth year of operation Tipperary Credit Union continues to maintain the success it has achieved in recent years while constantly introducing new, and improving existing services to its members.
Since the inaugural meeting on the 6th of November 1967 Tipperary Credit Union has grown from strength to strength. Total Assets of Tipperary Credit Union are now approaching €95 million with savings of €80 million, loans of €39 million and an active membership in the region of eighteen thousand.
The success of Tipperary Credit Union can be attributed to the following factors:

Were it not for all of these factors Tipperary Credit Union would not be one of the top twenty community credit unions in Ireland with a strong commitment towards being as innovative as possible in providing the best service to our members.
Services
Tipperary Credit Union offers a full range of financial services from competitive loans and savings accounts to quality insurance products and full EFT services.
As part of its strategic planning processes Tipperary Credit Union introduced a number of loan rates to fulfil the changing needs of its members, some of these rates are as follows:
- Personal Loans 9.9% APR
- Home Improvement / Business Loans 7.5% APR
- Special Rate Car Loans 7.4% APR
- Student Loans 6.6% APR
- Secured Savings Loans 6.6% APR
- Secured Loans 5.7% APR
- Community Development 5.2% APR
Frequent reviews and updates to our Credit Policy have helped us to improve our underwriting processes and prevented reckless lending. Specific terms and conditions apply to all the credit unions loan rates and these conditions are reviewed on annual basis. Tipperary Credit Union was one of the first credit unions to join the Irish Credit Bureau and to integrate the Irish Credit Bureau into our existing credit union system.
Other core services on offer are savings accounts, savings stamps, children’s beanie savings club, insurance products, discounted rail tickets and members car draw.
In recognition of the changing needs of our members and as part of our strategic planning process our range of services has increased with the introduction of many new products and electronic services, including one of the first credit union ATMs in the country and the introduction of the cumoney ATM card which can be used in any ATM in the country. We have also seen the introduction of online banking, new improvements to our credit union systems including Repayment Protection Insurance and Irish Credit Bureau integration.
Tipperary Credit Union are constantly keeping an eye on new technologies with the aim of improving the service that we offer to members, one of the new services we hope to offer members in the near future will be debit cards. Tipperary Credit Union are also looking at enhancements to our systems and hope to incorporate new credit scoring and ability to repay modules shortly.
Co-operation with other credit unions in Tipperary and Limerick in advertising and promoting the credit union message has proven to be very successful in highlighting the services we offer to members.
Community Development
With a head office in Tipperary Town and five sub offices in Doon, Dundrum, Emly, Cappawhite and Hollyford Tipperary Credit Union has shown a strong commitment to community development. Over the years this commitment has been further enhanced by its financial support of many worthwhile community projects including a community bus, the redevelopment of the local pitch and putt club, Red Cross ambulance, community defibrillators, Tipperary Excel Project, Tipperary Technology Park and a community parent support programme to mention just a few.
Foreign Aid
As part of its foreign aid policy Tipperary Credit Union currently supports a five year project at the Providence school in Shillong, north east India. This project gives under privileged children the opportunity to enter full time education and to become proficient in a number of trades. Financial support is provided by the credit union to subsidise the wages of full time teachers, pay for teaching equipment and identify potential employment opportunities. The ultimate aim is to help these students obtain an education which will enable them to setup and run mini businesses.
Education
The Board And CEO have identified the education of members , directors, volunteers and staff as being critical to the continued success of Tipperary Credit Union. We continue to use our newsletters and website to educate our members on the benefits of credit union membership and the products and services we offer.
Directors and staff are encouraged to avail of all training and education opportunities. We currently have 5 members of staff who hold QFA qualification, 2 of whom also hold the CUA qualification, 4 members of staff and one board member who have completed their ACCUP qualification and at present we have another 12 staff, 3 volunteers and 8 Directors/Supervisors currently studying for their ACCUP qualification.
