How do I open a Student Current Account?

  • Student Current Accounts are available to student members from age 12.
  • You must be a member to apply for a Current Account.
  • If you are 18 years and over and already a member you can open a Current Account Online.
  • Students aged 12 years and older are eligible for fee concession if pursuing a verified full-time course of study for one or more years. Parental Consent is needed for children up to the age of 16.
  • For overdrafts and loans, you must be 18 years or older to apply.

What documentation do I need?

1. Evidence of Identification (must have date of birth and recent photo)

  • Current valid passport or Current valid driving licence
  • Please note we can no longer accept the Personal Services Card as proof of Photographic Identification

2. Evidence of Address (must show your name & current address and be dated within the last 6 months)

  • Original Recent Utility Bill
  • Original Recent Bank/Credit Card Statement
  • Original Correspondence from Government Department/Body
  • If the student is still attending school and cannot yet provide any of the pieces mentioned, we will accept a letter (recent letter) from the school quoting the student’s address, including a photograph of the student stamped by the school.

3. Evidence of your PPS number

  • Payslip
  • Any revenue documentation
  • Please note we can no longer accept the Personal Services Card as proof of PPS Number

If you are 16 or 17 years of age, we require the consent of a parent/guardian to open a current account. Account must be opened in any one of our branch offices and parent/guardian present.

John Gaynor Memorial Student Scholarship Scheme

Tipperary Credit Union operates a Student Scholarship Scheme for members the first year of a recognised Third Level or Post Leaving Cert course or Trade Apprenticeships. The John Gaynor memorial scholarship is an open draw and is not based on academic achievement. The draw is strictly supervised and controlled.

Six lucky students each year will qualify for this scholarship, worth €1,500 each.
